Last week while reading through my Facebook news feed I came across a copy of the menu for Acadiana Grilled Cheese Co. posted as well as an article about the food truck turned brick and mortar restaurant. My first thought was, “I want to try it all!” I have always been a fan of cheese in most of its varieties so multiple trips here is sure to be inevitable. AGCC is in the newly constructed “Uptown Lofts” at the corner of Pierce St. and Congress St. This is an optimal location for the new restaurant as it is in
walking distance from the downtown area, a short drive from the ULL campus, visible to heavy Congress St. traffic, and just a minute off of Evangeline Thruway. Parking was not a problem as there is allowed along the roadway as well as a small lot across Pierce St. The outside seating area is comfortable and inviting as a place to relax and unwind while traffic flies by with the views of downtown Lafayette linger in the background. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and fresh with a solid glass window front giving the same beautiful view from a cool, comfortable room. The bar area is constructed of tin and cypress giving it a rustic, country feel offering premium spirits, wine, bottled domestic beer, and featuring local draught beer in a frosty pint glass. I pulled up
a seat at the bar, the servers were very polite and welcoming. I ordered a cold pint of Parish Envie Pale Ale drawn perfectly in the frosty glass. It took me a few minutes to decide on what to try first because it all seemed to be delicious from the menu which gave me time to enjoy the cold pint and banter among friendly guests at the bar. After minutes of deliberation, I had made my decision. I wanted the duck and tasso-gruyere, baby
swiss, pulled confit duck thigh, shaved tasso, caramelized onions, and apple butter. Sounds delicious right? The server was very apologetic as they were out of the duck and tasso for the evening being it was the best seller of the day. Instead I chose the boudin wrangler-pepper jack, cheddar, seared boudin, fried egg, crawfish dipping sauce. The sandwich was served in triangles that made it easy to handle and revealed the runny yolk of a perfectly cooked over medium egg. The texas toast was a nice golden brown with a slight crisp; just right! The cheeses paired well with the boudin and egg to offering a blend of extures that, with the spicy sauce, provided a savory cajun experience all in one bite. The lingering spice was quite nice as it reminded me not to forget about the cold pint of local brew. Overall Acadiana Grilled Cheese Co. gained a fan as there are many more menu items I want to try including the “Peaux Dogs.”
